History
Since its foundation, Cataler has been working to solve environmental problems on a global scale through the development, manufacture and sale of exhaust gas purification catalysts for automobiles and motorcycles. Please take a look at our history, which goes back half a century, of contributing to the creation of a sustainable society and aiming to be a company trusted by everyone.
Evolution
2010-2020
Completion of ARK Creation Centre
C-BCM (Cataler Business Continuity Management) and C-QIC (Cataler Quality Innovation Challenge) started after the Great East Japan Earthquake. In recognition of Total Quality Management (TQM), we were awarded the Deming Prize (2015) and the Deming Grand Prize (2018). In 2018, the "ARK Creation Centre" went into full operation.

Development
2000-2009
Total production of monolith catalysts reached 50 million mark since the start of production in 1979.
In the 21st century, Cataler began full-scale overseas expansion, and established Cataler South Africa (CSA), Cataler North America (CNA), and Cataler China (CCC). The intelligent catalysts jointly developed with Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. have made it possible to significantly reduce the amount of precious metals used.

Growth
1990-1999

With new technologies like the Pd-only three-way catalyst using only palladium (Pd), which was inexpensive at the time, and the world's first NOx storage reduction catalyst, Cataler continued to solve problems and grow as a company. In 1996, we established Cataler Thailand (CTC), Cataler's first overseas production base.

In the 1980s, Cataler launched a line of main products one after another. We started production of coal-derived activated carbon for canisters and monolith 3-way catalysts. The world's first high-tech 3-way catalyst was called the "Camry Catalyst", and received high acclaim from the EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency).

Dai-ichi Tanso Industries at that time
In 1967, exhaust gas purification technology did not yet exist in the world. Cataler was established for the purpose of developing and producing exhaust gas purification catalysts. Soon, the Headquarters was moved to its current location, and Toyota Motor Corporation was entrusted with catalyst R&D work. We embarked on research of 3-way catalysts, and the practical application of new technologies.
