Gasoline engine catalysts
With the widespread of hybrid Electric vehicles (HEV) and gasoline vehicles equipped with an idling stop function, the usage of gasoline engines is becoming more diverse than before. Therefore, 3-way catalysts for gasoline vehicles are required to have the ability to purify harmful substances such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) even at various temperatures and oxygen concentrations. There is also an urgent need to improve technology to suppress emissions of ultra-fine particulate matter (PM) in order to respond to stricter regulations in each country. Cataler is actively working on these issues, and has earned high acclaim and deep trust from automobile manufacturers.
GPF catalysts
In Europe, China and North America, "gasoline particulate filters (GPFs)" with ultra-fine particulate matter (PM) collection function are expected as after-treatment devices for gasoline direct injection vehicles to comply with emission regulations. At Cataler, we are developing not only a system in which a 3-way catalyst and a GPF are arranged side by side, but also a GPF catalyst that gives the GPF itself the purification function of a 3-way catalyst.

Restart NOx emission suppression material (SRR-MIX)
In order to achieve a catalyst suitable for automobiles with an idling stop function, Cataler is developing a restart NOx emission suppression material (SRR-MIX). By using SRR-MIX as a catalyst, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions at engine restart can be suppressed compared to the use of conventional ones. Cataler is analyzing SRR-MIX in more detail, and continues to improve it.
New oxygen storage material (pCP)
A new oxygen storage material developed by Toyota Central R&D Labs., Toyota Motor Corporation and Cataler, has made it possible to store near stoichiometric amount of oxygen. With new OSC material/pCP, precious metals are not oxidized, and remain active even when the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas is high. pCP is attracting attention as a material that greatly suppresses the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the oxygen concentration fluctuation range.

NSR (nitrogen oxide storage-reduction) catalysts
NSR (nitrogen oxide storage-reduction) catalysts, which can efficiently reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) in lean-burn emissions to nitrogen (N2) for purification, are a technology used in gasoline lean-burn and diesel engines. Cataler is developing NSR catalysts that maximize the catalytic function of precious metals and NOx storage substances using our proprietary loading technology.
