Environmental guidelines
Cataler aims to create products that are friendly to people and nature with the theme of "the best way for people and the environment". Until now, we have been working to protect the global environment through the development, manufacture, and sale of catalysts that purify exhaust gases from automobiles and motorcycles. In addition, we are implementing zero emissions to minimize the environmental impact of corporate activities, activities in which all employees participate to achieve voluntary environmental targets, and environmental education for all people working at Cataler.
Contribution to a prosperous 21st century
Cataler develops and provides advanced environmental products to contribute to a prosperous 21st century society. Moreover, we will actively promote the continuation and maintenance of zero emissions (*) through our corporate activities, the more efficient use of electricity and natural gas, and the reduction of our environmental impact through the effective use of raw materials.

- Do not emit waste that pollutes the environment or disrupts the climate.
It also refers to the introduction of renewable energy, the development of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) and non-emissions through the reuse and recycling of resources.
Pursuit of environmental technology
With the theme of coexistence between the environment and the economy, we will pursue all possibilities in both product development and production activities, and work to discover and establish new technologies.
Voluntary initiatives
In order to prevent environmental pollution, we have set voluntary targets based on environmental guidelines, mainly in the fields of environmental conservation, energy conservation, effective use of resources, design and development, and procurement. We plan activities with the participation of all employees to achieve our goals, and promote thorough prevention and continuous improvement. These activities are evaluated by a management review chaired by the President, and reviews are carried out to achieve the goals.

- Evaluation of contribution by reducing CO2 emissions by using electricity and gas, reducing waste, and purifying exhaust gas. Each year, reduction targets are set, and specific measures are decided and implemented in each subcommittee.
Collaboration and cooperation with society
In addition to complying with all environment-related laws, regulations, ordinances, conventions, and agreements with customers related to corporate activities, the company promotes cooperation and collaboration with affiliated companies and related industries, as well as with a wide range of segments of society.

- We measure environmental items (e.g., wastewater quality) stipulated by municipal ordinances, including the Waste Management Law, Air Pollution Control Law, Water Pollution Control Law, Noise Regulation Law, and Vibration Regulation Law. We have also set and adhere to voluntary standards that are stricter than these.
Implementation of environmental education
In order to more effectively carry out activities in line with environmental guidelines and achieve results, we systematically implement the necessary education for all employees working at the Company.
- Educational examples
- We provide education to help employees understand "what is the environment?" when they join the Company. We conduct annual reminder training for all employees. We also provide video training on global warming prevention, education on proper management of poisonous and deleterious substances, the role of environmental conservation promoters, and internal auditor training. In addition to general environmental education for employees, we continue to provide specialized training for specific workers and training for affiliated companies such as cooperating manufacturers and suppliers.
Environmental management system
A system has been set up with the President at the top, together with Environmental Managers and the Environmental Secretariat organizing environmental activities. Safety and environment meetings identify and share information on the state of environmental management, changes in legislation, challenges and countermeasures. We receive reports from subcommittees, which are divided into four areas, and connect them to the next action.

- Environmental Conservation Subcommittee
- We manage legal requirements such as air, water quality, odor, noise and vibration. We are also working to improve the working environment.
- Energy Saving Subcommittee
- In order to reduce CO2 emissions, we are implementing energy-saving measures, optimizing energy usage, and promoting reductions in energy consumption rate and total consumption per product.
- Subcommittee on Effective Utilization of Resources
- With the aim of reducing waste, we are promoting waste reduction by actively promoting reuse and recycling. Landfill waste has been zero since 2007.
- Design Procurement Subcommittee
- The Company pursues effective use of resources and energy conservation from the R&D side, with a focus on emissions catalysts, and promotes environmentally-friendly MONOZUKURI from the design and procurement process, which is the preliminary stage of product commercialization.
Cataler's approach to environmental conservation
CO2 reduction promotion activities
Led by the Energy Conservation Subcommittee, we are promoting CO2 reduction activities by eliminating waste such as idle operation of equipment during production stoppages, optimizing equipment capacity, and improving efficiency.

Waste reduction
Achieving zero emissions, aiming for zero waste
Led by the Effective Use of Resources Subcommittee, we are working to reduce waste by developing equipment that reduces the amount of sludge in wastewater from the equipment, and reusing waste materials. We achieved zero emission of landfill waste in 2007, and are currently maintaining this level.

Providing products that help realize low-emission vehicles
There are various exhaust gas regulations and fuels that apply to automobiles in each country, and exhaust gas regulations in particular are becoming stricter year by year.
Cataler contributes to the realization of low-emission vehicles by developing and providing new technologies for automobile exhaust gas purification catalysts that are compatible with the exhaust gas systems of each automobile manufacturer. For the Japanese market, most Cataler products are installed in 4-star vehicles.
Reduce use of scarce resources
Rare metals and rare earths such as precious metals, which are scarce resources, are used in exhaust gas catalysts. An important role of our company is to improve the performance of exhaust gas purification catalysts while reducing their usage through continuous technological development. As shown in the chart below, our state-of-the-art technology has significantly reduced the use of both rare metals and rare earths year by year. We will make further efforts to pass on valuable resources to the next generation.

Since 2011, there have been no environmental accidents that violate laws and regulations.
