Officer's Message
In order for the Cataler Group to achieve sustainable growth and development together with our stakeholders, all workers will work with an awareness of CSR. We will contribute to the local economy, interact with the local community, achieve the SDGs(Sustainable Development GoalS), practice open and fair corporate activities, and implement work style reforms.
Contribute to sustainable development in harmony with society and the Earth
In 2013, we established the "Cataler Group CSR Guidelines" based on our "Management Philosophy", and as a global company, we are committed to taking the initiative in contributing to the harmonious and sustainable development of society and the Earth through all our business activities in every country and region. Cataler's technologies are used by automobile and motorbike manufacturers and others around the world. We at Cataler take pride in the fact that our products themselves contribute to the environment, and that our products are being used all over the world. In addition, we have grown as a company that contributes to the environment by producing electrocatalysts for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) that run on hydrogen, and developing carbon materials for electric vehicles (HEV, PHV, BEV). The Company will not only provide better products and services to society, but will also act as a company that is accepted by many stakeholders and loved by people around the world.
A good corporate citizen
Cataler has 2 bases - the Headquarters in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and the R&D center in Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture, as well as 8 production sites and 4 representative offices abroad, i.e., a total of 14 sites (as of June 2024). We employ mainly local people in each country and region, and each of our locations has contributed to the local economy by developing a stable business since its inception.
The Company has been headquartered in Kakegawa City for 53 years and has provided opportunities to interact with the local community in a variety of ways, including volunteer activities such as summer festivals and greening with local residents, and science classes for primary school children.
In addition, although the Headquarters is located close to the coastline and in the epicenter of the Nankai Trough, the Company has established the Basic Business Continuity Guidelines and is firmly committed to BCM, so that in the event of a disaster, placing top priority on human life and safety, it will continue its business while contributing to the local community.
SDGs initiatives
In order to achieve the SDGs adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015, Cataler is also taking up the SDGs in its medium- and long-term management plans, and promoting activities to achieve them. As the pace of global change accelerates while environmental and other issues are piling up, there is a growing expectation for companies to solve social problems. Although we cannot necessarily say that "Cataler is an SDG-advanced company", we are working towards that goal step by step, with all employees understanding the concept of the SDGs, and being aware of how they relate to their own work and personal lives".
In addition, Cataler has set priority items and targets for company-wide activities.
Reduction in the number of diseases caused by air pollution
The first initiative is to further improve the catalyst technology that we have developed so far, and continue to contribute to the purification of exhaust gas from automobiles equipped with internal combustion engines. Exhaust gas contains harmful substances such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides that adversely affect the human body. We will accelerate our efforts to contribute to the health of people around the world by rendering them harmless.
- The company we should be.
- By expanding sales of its main product, automotive emission catalysts, the Company will contribute to the reduction of respiratory and circulatory diseases, etc., caused by "photochemical smog" and "particulate matter" (PM: Particulate Matter).
- SDGs Target: 3.9
- By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and diseases from hazardous chemicals, and air, water and soil pollution.
Reducing environmental impact in the value chain
As a second initiative, the company is promoting the reduction of CO2 emissions and the use of water resources generated in the process of producing and selling various products, including catalysts, to reduce the negative impact, and to coexist in harmony with the local community.
- The company we should be.
- When Cataler manufactures and sells products, the four main factors that have a negative impact on the environment are: (1) carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, (2) waste generation, (3) factory wastewater, and (4) use of precious metals.
For these 4 items, we will promote initiatives to minimize the environmental impact.
- SDGs Target: 13
- Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
- SDGs Target: 12.2
- By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.
- SDGs Target: 12.5
- By 2030, substantially reduce waste emissions through prevention, reduction and recycling (reuse).
- DGs Target: 6.3
- By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, reducing and minimizing dumping of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated sewage, and significantly increasing recycling and safe reuse worldwide.
Realization of rewarding employment
As a third initiative, we would like to develop a system that allows diverse human assets to make the most of their abilities, which will lead to the realization of diversity and sustainable corporate growth.
- The company we should be.
- We will enable all employees to concentrate on their work with vitality and achieve work-life balance.
- SDGs Target: 8.5
- By 2030, achieve full, productive employment, and decent work with equal pay for equal work for all men and women, including youth and persons with disabilities.
All of these items are difficult to achieve overnight, but we will work on them to contribute to the regions and the world.
Compliance
We believe that not only compliance with laws and regulations, but also the development of internal controls and the promotion of sound and steady management into the future, form the basis of a company. In the event of misconduct, the survival of the Company is also at stake. We have also developed a system to prevent fraud, and a whistle-blowing system to prevent fraud on a global scale. On the other hand, we will conduct our corporate activities in an open and fair manner by appropriately disclosing information without covering up what has occurred within the Company.
The Internal Control Committee is attended by the President, directors in charge of each function, and related departments, and reports and confirms the status of internal control initiatives and responses to revisions of laws and regulations.
With the changing times
We are also actively dealing with “work style reform” as an important issue. At Cataler, we are developing company-wide work style reform activities named "C-WIN (Cataler-Work life INnovation)". In addition to reducing working hours through more efficient work styles by utilizing RPA (Robotic Process Automation / one of the business process automation technology), we would like to create an environment where employees can work with more vitality by institutionalizing work styles that match their life patterns.
We are also developing the "C-HAM (Cataler-Human Asset Management)" program to nurture our employees as human assets, and enable them to fully demonstrate their abilities.
We believe that CSR is an integral part of developing corporate activities. All of us at Cataler Group are consciously committed to achieving sustainable success, and growing together with all of our stakeholders.

Massage from the President Masashi Ishida
Since its founding, Cataler has developed as a company contributing to the global environment through the development, production, and sale of exhaust gas purification catalysts for over 50 years. Now we strongly feel that we would like to continue to grow over the coming 50 years as well, by further refining our catalyst technolgies; by accelerating efforts for carbon neutrality; and by putting our dream and passion into the realization of a hydrogen economy through the expansion of our FC (Fuel Cell) business.
