Lean-burn engine
An lean-burn engine is an engine which burn gasoline in an atmosphere with excess oxygen. This engine has been used in many cars since the early 1990s. However, there is a problem that nitrogen oxides (NOx) are generated because combustion takes place in a state of excess oxygen. Vehicles sold after the 2000s were almost never equipped with lean-burn engines due to the tightening of exhaust gas regulations.
