Net zero emissions of greenhouse gases
In October 2019, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said in his first policy speech that Japan would achieve net zero emissions of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2) among others, by 2050. The number of countries that have announced the goal of "net zero emissions of greenhouse gases" is about 120, including the European Union, which accounts for 60% of the whole world.
※"Net zero" refers to a state where the difference between the amount of emissions and the amount that has been absorbed by forests and oceans, or that has been artificially collected, is zero.
